Mark Gordon selected for Google PhD Fellowship
EnlargeCSE graduate student Mark Gordon has been selected to receive a Google PhD Fellowship in Mobile Computing for the 2013-14 academic year. This year, Google has awarded only 15 fellowships to top Ph.D. students in the US and Canada who are doing exceptional work in computer science, related disciplines, or promising research areas.
Mark is a third year Ph.D. candidate and works with Prof. Z. Morley Mao in the RobustNet Research Group. Mark was chosen as a Google Fellow on the basis of his work in applying operating system techniques to the mobile platform. He was the lead author on Comet, a recent project that used distributed shared memory to facilitate code offload on Android devices. His current work leverages deterministic replay to allow resources available in the network to be leveraged by a mobile device. His work hopes to transparently augment the mobile computation to improve the experience of the end user.
