Doowon Lee, a graduate student in the Computer Science and Engineering program, has been selected to receive a prestigious IBM Ph.D. Fellowship. Doowon is a second-year Ph.D. student working with Professor Valeria Bertacco.

Doowon’s research focuses on improving the dependability of computer systems by both efficient design-time validation and run-time fault tolerance techniques. He is currently working on developing a low-cost error diagnosis and recovery solution for multicore processors. He plans to expand his idea to provide a comprehensive solution to ensure correct operation by protecting systems from functional errors and transistor failures with low overhead.

The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Awards Program is an intensely competitive worldwide program, which honors exceptional Ph.D. students who have an interest in solving problems that are important to IBM and fundamental to innovation in many academic disciplines and areas of study. IBM receives several hundred nominations worldwide. Award recipients are selected based on their overall potential for research excellence, the degree to which their technical interests align with those of IBM, and their progress to-date.
